Craig Kilborn was born in Kansas City to homemaker Shirley, and insurance executive Hiram Kilborn. He was bought up in Hastings, Minnesota and attended the Hastings High School where he played basketball and earned an All-State & All-Conference honor. He went on to graduate from Montana State University on a basketball scholarship. He is a huge fan Minnesota Timberwolves, especially Kevin Garnett. Although the details about his relationships are not known, he is known to have a 22 year old son named Jonathan. As of September 2004, he left his last show to pursue other interests including writing and producing television shows.

Kilborn started off as the Savannah Spirit’s play-by-play radio announcer in the late 1980’s. He later went on to do various small jobs before he became an ESPN SportsCenter anchor in 1993. He then moved on to host various other shows like JAG, CBS Cares, The Hamptons, CBS at 75, Rocked With Gina Gershon, The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn and Now With Bill Moyers besides The Daily Show. In addition, he also wrote for the TV show CBS’ Super Bowl Uncensored besides acting in the movies Old School, The Shaggy Dog, The Benchwarmers and Full of It.

In The Daily Show, he played the host and the anchorman. He started his stint with the show when the show premiered on Comedy Central in July 1996. He continued to host the show till December 1999 when he left the show to host another talk show on CBS. His main focus as the host of The Daily Show was on a character driven comedy news.
